Oh How I Hate My Kitchen So Much!

posted on 7 June 2013

Everybody has things they do not like about their home. For me, the list is long. My husband and I bought a house built in 1972 as a great starter home and fixer upper. However, my list seems to be increasing instead of decreasing. My biggest peeve about my house is my kitchen and dining room. I have an outdated galley style kitchen and a dining room with shag carpet. If I had the funds, I would tear out the walls separating my dining room, living room, and kitchen. I would then make sure the load bearing walls was supported. I would then place in an updated kitchen with a bar into the living room, and move the dining room to the living room, and make it look more homely with one of those acrylic rugs that are popular these days. This gives me an open floor plan that I would love to have. I would make the appliances up to date. I would also install a freezer and wine fridge. I would love to have granite countertops and new flooring throughout the 3 rooms.

Passing an exam with your phone in hand

posted on 15 May 2013

Technical classes like finance need you to use your phone in an exam room. One cannot possible pass based on cramming of events that influence investments, stocks, treasury bills and the like. A phone in an exam room is essential for http://www.lookupbyphone.co.uk log in when one wants a back door into a financial services website like a bank website. The use of the front lookup site is an attachment to a software router that only lets one see the financial site but when they are caught with the phone in the exam room they can touch one button to make it seem like they are on an irrelevant research hunt and that content found will not be of any assistance in passing the exam. I having cheated with my phone a couple of times have not been entirely satisfied with it. To be a good financial analyst need a sharp mind that can recall most happenings in the money markets and if cheating by phone is done then it hinders expertise and knowledge accumulation on brain memory and data retention.

Attic Insulation: Get More Bang for Your Buck!

posted on 20 April 2013

The easiest way to improve your home's insulation and to save money in both the summer and winter is to re-insulate your attic with thermal insulation materials. Maybe you don't have any insulation in the attic, or maybe you have some blown-in insulation but it has settled. You may even have bats or rolls of insulation but it's too thin to get the job done. Whatever your reason, attic insulation gives you the most bang for your buck in terms of cost to savings. Just go down to your local hardware store, tell the friendly customer service associate you want to improve your insulation, and he or she will show you all of the great options. If you use blown in, be sure to use the calculation charts on the side to determine how much to buy so you can save on having to go back. If you want to lay down extra strips or rolls, be sure to avoid paper-backed insulation, as the additional moisture barriers can cause rotting if not used properly. Most importantly, remember that you are aiming for an insulation factor of R49 or higher, about 12in or 30cm deep. The chart on the side of the insulation you buy will help you figure out if you're using the right one, especially if you are adding on to insufficient current insulation. My Fantasy Home Described In Some Detail

posted on 3 March 2013

If I had an unlimited budget, I would build a house suitable not only for my needs, but my most in-desirable wants. I need all the basic rooms, kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom. My first want for the house would include at least 5 extra bedrooms in which one would be my office, workout room, entertainment hall, dinning room, and a sauna room. As you enter my home, you would be in a large foyer in which columns would be everywhere, accompanied by a vaulted ceiling with a ravishing chandelier. As you move forward, you would walk into the living room which would be in all white (simply for viewing purposes only). I would have all sorts of exotic statues in creme tone and glass objects. Next would be my kitchen which would be all modern. Nothing but fancy gadgets and top of the line equipment. The decor in this would be all black and stainless steel with a wonderful glass kitchen island right in the middle for cooking & entertainment. In the bathroom, possibly 3 bathrooms, I would have all done in modern tone with exotic decor. Such as african themed, safari theme, and aquatic theme. In the master suite, I would have all antique furniture, with columns. The color would be white and tan. Very elegant and sassy. All the storeys of the house would be adjoined using white primed stair parts. I would have a fireplace in the suite with a televeision in the footboard. My other rooms would be designed top of the art, with vaulted ceilings in each.

Giving, Giving, Giving: All The Stress

posted on 25 February 2013

When shopping for friends and family members, be it birthday gifts or a holiday, deciding on the right item can be very difficult and stressful. One way to solve this problem is by first narrowing down the categories. First ask yourself the gender of the receiver, then what your budget may be, and finally how well you know them and how much they mean to you. These questions can be the difference between being too impersonal and getting a gift they truly cherish. I like to get friends that I am not so close to food baskets or something perishable so they do not feel obligated to keep it and at the same time it appears to have taken more effort than simply selecting a gift card. For family members or friends I truly keep close to my heart, I prefer handcrafted items if you obtain any talents or a personalized gift that you know relates to their hobby. Also avoid getting anyone something As Seen On TV, these products shout "I had no idea what to get you so I went to Walgreens right before I came here!" Simply remember the few questions proposed and try not to fret, as it isn't as stressful as it may seem. As long as you use common sense and reason they should love their gift.

A Look at French Leather Club Chairs

posted on 5 February 2013

French leather club chairs are an old style favourite. Vintage Leather club chairs have been found throughout France since the 1920s, and in some case earlier. Still today, leather club chairs remain a fireside favourite. Genuine vintage or antique leather club chairs are still available in France. Often they need total restoration or even completely recovering, but many can still be found with their original faded patina and look absolutely charming. The frame of these club chairs is made from either hard or soft wood, depending on the manufacturer, and are often as solid today as when they were first produced. This is an advantage of buying a pair of original French leather club chairs, as you know you are purchasing a well crafted and solidly made product. The quality of the leather is also another bonus. The leather originally supplied for these chairs was hard wearing and durable. Often a good thing, as many of these chairs have been in continual use for almost a century now!

The Breaking of Cold Water Holding Tank!

posted on 10 December 2012

In the winter of 2009, on a vary cold afternoon I walked down into the basement to step into 1 a soaked carpet. As I looked into the furnace room, I could see that there was a water leak on the side of our Water Holding Tank. After calling the Fire Department to come out and help putty the tank, I called a local Plumber. As it was close to the Holidays, I did not anticipate anyone to want to pick up there home phone. However he picked up, and was at the house within a half hour. As we knew it was a holding tank he had stuck one in his van, and began the process. As I watched him do the installation he taught me several techniques on how to properly check your pipes, and plumbing in and around the house during the winter months to make sure there is no wear or tear that may cause trouble. At the end of the install he even did not charge for the overnight call, and Thanked me for the services. I forced some cash into his pocket and told him no I thank you. At the end of that night I realized why he was so thankful. Self Employed companies like Plumbers, Electricians, and Construction workers have been hurt bad because of the down economy. With the fact that I called a small local business (that was advertised at a local Graham Plumbers Merchant) over the local big business plumbing company, I put a smile on someone's face. This was one of the best experiences with plumbers, and it put a lasting feeling in my heart for the self employed.

Enjoying Our Beautiful Summertime Backyard Again!

posted on 17 November 2012

My husband and I spent years working on our yard. Painstakingly planting a wonderful garden for food as well as enjoyment. We both worked at night so had many fun days in the sun in our wonderful retreat. The problem came when our hours were switched and we went back to working days. Although the hours seemed better we found that we no longer could utilize our lovely backyard. My husband came up with a super idea of lighting our garden and pathways and making a little private get away for our now new quiet nightlife! We bought some fun shaped solar powered lights from LED Lights Zone of which we found a numerous variety to line our paths and we used strip lighting to wrap our bench and a few carefully placed rocks by our pond making everything pop and giving the whole yard a whimsical feel. Its fantastic. The lights come on naturally at dusk. They are not over powering so our neighbors still like us and we gained back the use of our garden and yard. Another great feature is the solar lightenings cost efficiency.Other Sources: tagged.com | thefreedictionary.com | www.ledlightszone.co.ukFurther Research: uncoverthenet.com | expedia.comFurther Research: about.com | wikihow.comFurther Reading: enotes.com | cbsnews.com | nydailynews.com

Heating My House for the Cold Winter Ahead

posted on 7 November 2012

With winter fast approaching an the weather getting colder by the day, I thought I would write about a few methods I employ to heat my house. Firstly the primary method of heating the house is by gas central heating. Gas central heating is ideal as it is fast to heat up and can be timed to come on at times that suit me. We don't have what I'd consider designer heating, but our central heating gets the job done. The drawback with gas central heating is that the current gas prices are high. The second method used to heat my house during the winter is an open fire. The heat produced by an open fire is unparalleled and I find nothing more relaxing then sitting down after a hard days work in front of a blazing fire. However, the major drawback with an open fire is that it can be labor intensive to clean and stock.

Solar Energy Is A Truly Powerful Resource

posted on 30 September 2012

The sun has always been there for humans. Some cultures have worshipped it as a god, some people have studied it scientifically, and artists throughout history have used it as inspiration or plain old lighting for their greatest works. Nowadays, we even use the sun to provide us with electricity, to power the many gadgets and bits of technology that are so important to modern life. Since electricity is so intertwined with our world, there are a ton of ways solar power is useful to us. It's great for cutting home energy costs, of course, if you live in a place where the sun is reliable enough for that. They even make solar christmas lights now. Another great way to combine natural power with technological power is to use solar technology to charge your mobile devices, like mp3 players and smartphones. For those who do that, the sun is quite literally helping us stay in touch with the rest of the world. You might say that these days, the sun illuminates our lives in more ways than one.

Our Housekeeper is Way Older Than She Appears

posted on 17 August 2012

Every Saturday we have Nana Luisa comes by the house to clean and do our laundry. She has been the housekeeper since time immemorial and according to Andi she can no longer recall how old Nana Luisa is all she knows is that her mom used to say Nana was also her babysitter. Doing a quick calculation in my head I have this feeling that Nana Luisa is way older than her appearance. Andi said she has several grandchildren all of whom she has never met but has heard random stories of and if she remembers correctly there's one grandson who happens to be in the field of construction and architecture. While Nana Luisa was busy arranging the magazine laying haphazardly in the living room Andi recalled one time where Nana Luisa asked if she could borrow a magazine saying that his grandson might be able to use it for a structural decking assignment. This was over 5 years ago and Andi wonders if the grandson is now married. Sometimes Andis train of thought wonders significantly you'll never know what would come out of mouth next.

Betty and Her Emotional Problem at Work

posted on 13 August 2012

Betty is such a sweet girl, she works as the personal assistant to the manager in a firm. When she worked in to my office she registered for sessions, so we booked Tuesdays by 3 pm after her work. The first day she came for her session, we had to get her bio data: she was five feet six inches, she is twenty three years old, she is single and has a boyfriend, and she works as the personal assistant to the manager in an electrician contractors firm. So after we got the bio data out of the way we had to get to the reason she enrolled for sessions. She began to weep telling me that her boyfriend was the reason she was in the sessions, that he had promised to marry her but of recent she started to make her feel a little uncomfortable, I asked her how she meant and she said that she could not lay her hands on the particular issue itself and I asked her if she thinks she has personal issues.

Moving from City to City Constituted Helena's Childhood

posted on 28 July 2012

Helenas childhood has been all about moving from one city to another. It is something she despises growing up since it does not give her any chance to make friends and build relationships. As a child making friends and doing sleepovers are important aspect of growing up and being denied of such experience made her resent her parents. She told us she would never allow her future children to go through that. I told Helena that sometimes things just don't always go our way and that everything happens for a reason. So when Mike told us that hes leaving town for a job offer at heritage roofing Tallhassee she seems to understand that it is one of those things we can't do anything about. Mike told us about it first unsure as to how his girlfriend would react to it. Surprisingly she took it pretty well, very well I think like it is too good to be true. Seeing the surprise looks of everyone in the house she explained that since she works online she can be wherever she wants and at the moment she wants to be wherever Mike is.

Home Improvements: if Only I Had a Laundry Room

posted on 21 July 2012

When I'm not actually doing DIY, I'm planning it in my head. I love visiting sites like graham-group.co.uk to see what kind of new ideas I can come up with in my head. One of things I would really like to add to my home is a real, honest to goodness, laundry room. We recently bought our home and it is a 1950's ranch house which was modest on price-but also on luxuries. As a result, we inherited some interesting "space-saving" dynamics that are not very convenient. For example, our washing machine is crammed into a corner of our main bathroom while our dryer is on the complete other side of our house on the back of our garage. This makes laundry time very adventurous as wet loads of laundry have to be carried out to the garage for drying. Often, there is a trail of socks and underwear left along the way. We would love to create a real pantry/laundry room in the back of the garage, of course, that will require running new plumbing to that end of the house. Not a job for this year, but perhaps when the economy picks up.

The Space Saving Dining Table That Makes the Most of Our Dining Room

posted on 15 July 2012

I think a pace saving dining table with a continuous hinge can really help us organize our dining room much better. We don't use the dining room much for actual dining, and it's become the defacto spare room we store things in for now. A foldaway table means we can utilise the whole space much of the time, unless we have guests. I look at other people's houses and I always ask about their dining room - do they use it a lot? Often people don't, and I feel it's a waste if you have a large dining table there doing nothing 99% of the time - better to make more use of the space there. I know one friend who even knocked down the wall between his living room and dining room to make a bigger living room. I think that's not a bad idea, and may be one I'll consider in the future.

The Conservation of Vegetation is Also Being Practiced on Roofs

posted on 22 June 2012

The most intriguing and appreciated kind of roofing here in the uk is the kind of roofing with vegetation on top. This to me, I think is one of the most appreciated and commented kind of roofing around the state. Come to think of it, it is even those who are in the city that get to enjoy the green roofing a lot because it is almost above every commercial building and homes that are in this area. What makes green roofing unique is how it makes roofs seem so alive and so connected to the environment all the time. It is also one of those roofing that support the conservation of the environments and making sure that life is supported even on top of peoples roofs and other places as well. I love the fact that there are roofs which have managed vegetation all this while because of its uniqueness and the positive impact that it is creating in our society. I would settle for this kind of roofing if I were building my own home.

The New Carpet We'd Love for Our Home

posted on 11 June 2012

On any given Wednesday, phones will buzz and words exchanged and plans will be made. All of a sudden, I have plans for friends to come visit me during the weekend. Here, the cleaning begins. Scrubbing, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, washing of all sorts. And when it's all finished, I'll take a long look at my living room just one more time. And I'll notice the spots. They cover the carpet, brown and black stains marring the tan expanse. They're even found on the Elements stair parts. How they got there, well, who is to know? Between me and my three sisters growing up in this room, a number of drinks and dishes and crafts have been spilled. My dog certainly hasn't helped. She sprawls out most of the time, her ebony tufts happily darkening the floor. So I'll look out in disgust. I will think to myself "You really ought to buy a new carpet." And so, soon, I will. I'll call somebody in, a real professional. He'll bring in swatches, more so than I know what to do with. My sisters and I will pet each little square, judging them on their individual tactile merits. This one, too course. This one, too short. Shag carpeting? Never. And we'll find one, perfectly soft and plush. With our fingers rubbing the fibers, we'll envision ourselves stretching out on the soft new carpet. The new, clean, carpet. We'll call the man back, order it. And once it is installed, we all will frolic and roll and revel, just as if we were babies again. The way we were when we moved into this place. Back when the carpet was clean.

On the Perils of Relaxing in Hot Tubs

posted on 2 June 2012

Nothing good every came of my ventures into hot tubs. My first encounter was when I met my future brother in law and his girl friend. My fiance and I met them when we all visited Atlanta, and we were invited to meet them at the hot tub of their hotel. Meeting someone who turned out to be a bit sleezy with their sleezy girlfriend, all in bathing suits, and getting into the same small hot tub was a bit disturbing. Hot tubs give me the impression of returning to the womb. They are a little too hot and they seem to cramp your personal space. You are in a small pool with water that has been shared by who knows who. You prespire and the water you are in seems to create more persperation rather than to be cleansing. You come out feeling faint. They are suppose to be cleansing and relaxing, yet you come out exposed to unknowns and feeling spent.More on this Topic: wikipedia.org | danz.co.ukMore Info: fanpop.com | walgreens.com | wetpaint.com | imdb.com

Transforming a Loft into a Livable Space

posted on 29 March 2012

One of the things I would love to change about my house is to convert my unused loft into a family room and home office. When I originally purchased my home ten years ago, I was really attracted to it's large rooms and unique architecture. This included the home having a large master suite and also the exterior having a unique southwestern style and design. Although I have been able to design the kitchen - replete with its folding dining table - and living room areas just the way I want, I still have not been able to transform my unused loft area into a livable working space. Since I just started a new business, I would like to convert part of the loft into a home office. I think this space would be ideal for a business because it has a lot of natural lighting and built bookcases. In addition, I would also like to convert the remaining space into an area for entertaining.
